Shining Orange Shrimp

Description

The Shining Orange Shrimp, also known as the Orange Sakura Shrimp, is a selectively bred variation of the popular Red Cherry Shrimp. These dwarf freshwater shrimp are appreciated for their striking orange coloration and peaceful nature, making them an excellent addition to a community aquarium. Here are some specific care details for these shrimp:

  1. Temperature: The Shining Orange Shrimp thrives in temperatures between 64°F and 84°F (18°C to 29°C). However, they tend to do best in the range of 72°F to 78°F (22°C to 26°C). It's crucial to maintain a stable temperature within this range to ensure their optimal health and vibrant coloration.

  2. Minimum Tank Size: These shrimp are relatively small and don't require a large aquarium. A tank with a minimum capacity of 5 gallons (19 liters) is usually sufficient for a small colony of these shrimp. However, it's essential to provide enough hiding places, plants, and driftwood for them to feel secure. A larger tank can be beneficial as it allows for more stable water parameters and provides better opportunities for maintaining water quality.

Tank Requirements:

  • Water Parameters: The ideal water parameters for the Shining Orange Shrimp include a pH level between 6.2 and 7.6 and a water hardness of 6 to 8 dKH. Ensuring stable water conditions is crucial, as these shrimp can be sensitive to fluctuations in water parameters.

  • Filtration: A gentle filtration system is recommended to prevent strong water currents that can stress the shrimp. Using a sponge filter or a pre-filter sponge over the filter intake helps to protect the shrimp from being sucked into the filter.

  • Substrate and Décor: A soft substrate, such as sand or fine gravel, is ideal for these shrimp. Adding live plants, driftwood, and rocks provides them with hiding places and grazing surfaces for algae and biofilm.

  • Feeding: Shining Orange Shrimp are primarily algae and biofilm grazers. They also consume leftover fish food and decaying plant matter. Supplement their diet with high-quality shrimp-specific food or blanched vegetables like zucchini, spinach, or kale.

  • Compatibility: They are generally peaceful and can be kept with other non-aggressive, small fish and invertebrates. However, avoid housing them with aggressive fish that may prey on them.

Regular monitoring of water parameters and performing routine water changes are essential for maintaining a healthy environment for these shrimp. Additionally, ensure that there are no sudden fluctuations in temperature or water chemistry to prevent stress and potential health issues.
