L034 Medusa Pleco 8cm

Description

The L034 Medusa Pleco (scientifically known as Ancistrus ranunculus) is a freshwater fish belonging to the Loricariidae family, commonly referred to as the Pleco or Plecostomus family.

  1. Temperature: Medusa Plecos thrive in a temperature range of 78-86°F (25-30°C).

  2. Minimum Tank Size: For a single Medusa Pleco, a tank with a capacity of at least 20-30 gallons is recommended. However, larger tanks are preferable for maintaining multiple specimens or providing ample hiding spots.

Feeding Habits: Medusa Plecos are omnivorous. In the wild, they feed on algae, biofilm, detritus, and small invertebrates. In captivity, you can provide them with a diet that includes high-quality sinking pellets, fresh vegetables like zucchini, cucumber, and occasional protein-based foods like bloodworms or brine shrimp.

Habitat Preference: Medusa Plecos are native to the Rio Orinoco basin in Venezuela, and they prefer slow-moving and well-oxygenated water with plenty of hiding spots, such as driftwood, caves, and crevices.

Water pH Level: They typically prefer a slightly acidic to neutral pH level ranging from 6.0 to 7.5.

Behavior: Medusa Plecos are generally peaceful and can be kept with other non-aggressive fish species. They are known to be territorial and may establish their territories in the aquarium. It's essential to provide hiding places and plenty of driftwood for them to graze on.

Schooling: Medusa Plecos are solitary fish and do not exhibit schooling or shoaling behavior.

Bottom Dweller: They are primarily nocturnal, which means they are more active during the night and tend to be bottom-dwelling fish during their foraging activities.

Color and Other Details: The L034 Medusa Pleco is known for its striking appearance. It has a dark body with contrasting white or cream-colored markings that resemble a "Medusa" pattern, which gives it its common name. The distinctive coloration and pattern make it an attractive addition to a well-maintained aquarium.

When keeping Medusa Plecos, it's crucial to provide proper water quality, maintain suitable tank conditions, and offer a balanced diet to ensure their well-being and vibrant appearance. Additionally, ensure that your aquarium setup includes caves or hiding spots for them to retreat into during the day, as they are primarily active at night.
