Sunburst Gugeon (Hypeseleotris Cyprinoides)

Description

The Sunburst Gudgeon (Hypseleotris cyprinoides) is a colorful and interesting freshwater fish native to Australia.

  1. Temperature: Sunburst Gudgeons thrive in tropical temperatures ranging from 72°F to 82°F (22°C to 28°C).

  2. Minimum Tank Size: A tank size of at least 20 gallons is recommended for a small group of Sunburst Gudgeons. Providing a larger tank can accommodate a larger group and create a more stable environment.

Feeding Habits: They are omnivores and accept a variety of foods. A diet of high-quality flake food, pellets, frozen or live brine shrimp, daphnia, and bloodworms is suitable. Providing a varied diet is essential for their health and coloration.

Habitat Preference: In the wild, Sunburst Gudgeons are found in slow-moving streams and rivers with sandy or gravelly substrates. They appreciate tanks with hiding spots like caves, driftwood, and plants.

Water pH Level: They prefer slightly acidic to neutral water conditions with a pH range of 6.5 to 7.5.

Behavior: Sunburst Gudgeons are generally peaceful but can be territorial, especially during breeding. They do well in community tanks with other non-aggressive fish of similar size.

They are not strict schoolers but will benefit from being kept in a small group. A group of three to six individuals is recommended to minimize aggression.

Sunburst Gudgeons are bottom-dwellers, spending a significant amount of time near the substrate. Provide a sandy or fine gravel substrate to mimic their natural habitat.

Color: Adult males exhibit vibrant colors, with a yellow or orange body and distinctive blue markings. Females are generally less colorful.

Other Details: Breeding can occur in captivity, and during this time, males become more territorial and colorful. They lay eggs in crevices or caves, and the male guards the eggs until they hatch.

Remember to regularly monitor water parameters, perform routine water changes, and provide a well-balanced diet to ensure the health and vibrancy of your Sunburst Gudgeons. Always research and consider the specific needs of the fish in your care to create a suitable and thriving environment.
