The Sansevieria masoniana, commonly known as Mason’s Congo or Whale’s Fin, is a fascinating plant. 

  1. Appearance and Growth:

    • Sansevieria masoniana is a semi-succulent, stemless, and evergreen plant.
    • Its leaves are wide and paddle-shaped, resembling beaver’s tails or whale fins.
    • The leaves are dark green with smudged light-green spots and have slightly wavy, irregular borders.
    • The plant can grow up to 3-4 feet tall, but under optimal conditions, it may reach a height of 5 feet.
    • Flowers can appear at any time of the year, but mostly from Summer to Winter.

    • Soil: Use a loose, well-drained potting mix. Sansevieria masoniana prefers soil with good drainage to prevent root rot.
    • Light Exposure: Place it in bright, indirect light. It can tolerate low light but grows better with more light.
