The gold tetra (Hemigrammus rodwayi) is an interesting fish, as the gold colouration comes from it secreting an anti-parasitic coating over its scales. It doesn't begin to produce this coating until it's in the presence of the parasites in its natural habitat, so many in the aquarium trade are more silver. They stay under 2" long, and appreciate soft slightly acidic water, and plenty of plants to roam within. They should be in groups of six or more, and will school more tightly in large groups (12+).
