Horadandia brittani

Description

Horadandia brittani is a species of very small cyprinid fish that is endemic to coastal floodplains in South India. Originally described as a subspecies of H. atukorali, it was elevated to species level in 2013. These tiny fish can grow up to 2 cm (0.79 inches) in standard length. 🐟

For nearly five decades, the genus Horadandia remained monotypic, with a single species confined to Sri Lanka. However, in 1992, a new species, H. brittani, was discovered in the southwestern regions of India. These little carplets add to the rich biodiversity of our coastal ecosystems! 🌊🌿
