Tailspot Tetra (Bryconops caudomaculatus - rubostriatus)

Description

Appearance: Bryconops caudomaculatus showcases a sleek and slender body adorned with intricate markings. Its most prominent feature is its tail fin, which is adorned with eye-catching spots or maculations, lending it its distinctive name. The rest of its body may display subtle hues of silver or gold, further accentuating its allure.

Behavior: This species is known for its social nature and active behavior. In the wild, Bryconops caudomaculatus is often found in groups, where they exhibit shoaling behavior. In the aquarium, they may display schooling tendencies, particularly when kept in larger groups. Despite their active nature, they are generally peaceful and can coexist with a variety of tankmates.

Habitat and Care: Originating from the Amazon River basin, Bryconops caudomaculatus thrives in well-oxygenated water with plenty of swimming space. Aquarists should provide a spacious aquarium with ample hiding spots and areas for exploration. Water parameters should mimic their natural habitat, with temperatures ranging from 75-82°F (24-28°C) and a slightly acidic to neutral pH.

Diet: As omnivores, Bryconops caudomaculatus has a varied diet consisting of both plant and animal matter. In the aquarium, they readily accept a variety of foods, including high-quality flakes, pellets, live or frozen foods such as bloodworms and brine shrimp, and vegetable matter.
